Visual Metaphors

1. It would show smashing and tearing of items that represent our environment. The smashing and tearing would come from what is causing global warming.
2. It would show a butterfly flying freely representing “today’s environment” and then a slide saying “this is our due to global warming” and a slowly dying butterfly.
3. Hairspray released in the environment, smoking, car emishions for air polluction.
4. Land development, land fills, destroying natural resources and wasting land space.
5. A plastic cup representing the ozone layer and a person smahing it to represent how were affecting it.

I think #1 is the most effective because it shows how even the smallest things can cause a change in our life.

Mark Geldmeir: FOX 2 News Meteorologist

Hi. My name is Spoorthi ______ from Parkway North High School in Creve Coeur, MO wondering if you could help us with a school project in English.  For this project, we are making a documentary on global warming.

In this documentary we will be talking about what kind of effect global warming is having on the environment as well as on people.  As a meteorologist, I feel that you can be helpful with showing us how global warming is having an effect on the climate and weather change.

We will be making this document in the next few weeks and I hope you can help with it. Please reply to this email. I hope you can help.

Reflection

1. I have learned that everyone and everything is affected by global warming.  People and animals are like a chain, if one thing is effected by something happen, it may have an effect on something..  Plants are dependent on people as we are dependent on plants.

2. What surprised was that trying to find ways to prevent global warming may not be the only solution to our problems.  Some evidence shows that global warming may be helping us to prevent natural disasters.  This showed me that there is more then one angle that we can take the “Prevention segment” as.  We can take it as simple things we can do to help against global warming as well as we don’t have anything to worry about since global warming can be helping the environent.

3. I think the focus of our segment should be the impact that global warming may have on us and the future.  We should show how it’s affecting us now as well as in the long run.  It should vary from how its hurting animals, the ozone layer, and the ice caps, to what may happen in the future if it continues.

4. Some further research we may need is the good effects of global warming today.  Though I have only heard of negative effects of global warming, but there is always a good side to everything.

5. There are things that other segments can use some things that Causes of Global Warming can use is the information on what is causing global warming and how it is effecting people.

Global Warming Rushes Timing of Spring

Evidence by mother nature are showing that seasons are starting months earlier due to global warming.  For example cherry blossoms in the states capitals are blossoming in early March when in previous years have usually blossomed in late April and possibly early May.  Allergy patterns as well as migration patterns of animals are changing because, as Stanford University biologist Terry Root says, “The alarm clock that all the plants and animals are listening to is running too fast.”

This could be a bad signs for most animals.  It may even be sign leading to the extinction of many animals.  As many animals are still in hibernation during this time, food may bloom or bear at an earlier time and happen only during that time causing the food supply to run out early and the starvation of animals.

Not only is this bad for animals, timing also plays a crucial part in the role of plants.  For example many trees, rely on insects and smaller animals, to help with their growth.  Due to winters being longer, insects don’t come outside causing trees to dry out and shrivel.

The rain supply also plays a crucial part in both plants and animals.  Some animals depend on plants as a food supply.  If enough rain does not reach the plants, the plants dry out and die causing those dependent on plants as a food supply to die.  Global Warming is causing a chain reaction between animals and plants.  Plants are dependent on animals and vice versa.

MY OPINION:  I believe that the scientists should have explored more areas other then just the coasts for how timing is affecting plants and animals.  I believe timing is crucial to our Earth because we are very dependent on timing and how everything occurs.  If the order is messed the chain of natural being might be affected in a bad way.  On the other side, if the timing is changing some animals and plants can adapt to these changes and just live the same way before these changes in the climate.  Other animals and plants are unlucky and cannot adapt due to how they are made.

Global Warming Causing Fewer Hurricanes, Study Shows

Martin Merzer, McClatchy Newspaper

Due to the warmer weather, scientists believe that the hurricane rate has decreased and will continue at a steady rate. Due to the warmer temperatures, the ocean are becoming warmer and causing stronger crosswinds helping to suppress that developments of hurricanes.

Previous studies contradict this information saying that warmer oceans are causing hurricanes to occur more and be stronger overtime. But it was later found that location may also be a factor on how warmer oceans may be effecting the hurricane rate.

MY OPINIONS: I believe that this information should continuing research how global warming is having an effect on the hurricane rate. If we study this a bit more, we may be able to predict in the future of hurricanes and the intensity if they occur. We may be even able to prepare ourselves much better in these cases, causing lesser damage and helping to budget our money better if this research furthers itself.

1. My gut reaction is I like it and I don’t like.  I like it since we are informing our generation about what is to happen to our future if we do not address the problem now. I also do not think it is the best topic for us because it does not really have a counter-argument for it.  For religious intolerance, there are many different angles you can take it from. With global warming you can only take it from the angle that it’s bad and that we have to do something about it now.

2.  I learned yesterday that global warming has affected everyone and everything and has linked many problems together.  For example malaria has grown to mass populations because of the warm climates around the world allowing mosquitoes to migrate to different areas of the world letting the disease spread.  I also learned that many people are just denying and not caring about global warming since it is not really hurting us yet.  Many scientists believe that it will not matter whether or not we change our actions to help the fight against global warming.

3. I think our problem now is that people will not really care about the topic as much as we want them to

Global Warming, Hunters Make Polar Bears a Must Addition to Endangered Species List

Vicky Meretsky

Polar Bears are one of the many animals that are facing the chances of being on the endangered list due to the melting ice caps and hunters, as well as being on the “threatened species” list. According to the Endangered Species Act, polar bears are more likely to be on the endangered list since endangered means threatened with extinction, where as threatened is endangered to be extinct.

The United States is to blame for eliminating the Canadian polar bears since they come back with hunting trophies with ease. Another factor is climate change due to global warming.

The Endangered Species Act provides no real solution on helping polar bears. The government is helping though with restricting activity and taking caution in order to help save the polar bears. Though activities in the past have not been that harmful in the past, they may lead to more of a problem in the future if warming continues.

Poor Polar Bears! Losing their homes but 70% of the water that we can use is frozen in the ice caps. Losing much of our land as well as cold seasons and places that are cold to visit.
